New agencies for Western economic development

Federal Economic Development Minister Mélanie July has announced there will be two new economic development agencies, one for the Prairies and another for British Columbia.

"Western Canada's economy is growing and diversifying more each day, requiring a tailored approach that considers its needs and seizes its opportunities,” Joly said.

PrairiesCan and PacifiCan will replace Western Economic Diversification Canada, which has been in place for 34 years.

It was formed after the Liberal government hosted a Western Economic Development Conference in Calgary featuring gains minister Otto Lang and agriculture minister Eugene Whelan, both now dead.

I remember it well because I was the information officer in charge of the announcement.
