Les Entreprises Simon & Nolan inc. of Laval, Que., pleaded guilty to
four counts of violating the Food and Drugs Act by cheating on the quality of
olive oil it sold in 2014.
The court fined the company $20,000 and ordered the destruction of the oil
the Canadian Food Inspection Agency seized.
The CFIA investigation in December, 2014, convinced it that the company
was cheating by claiming its olive oil was virgin olive oil, 100 per cent pure
olive oil and 100 per cent pure grapeseed oil.
The company was charged with violating subsection 5(1) of the Food and
Drugs Act.
Another similar offence took place on or about February 15, 2016, involving extra virgin olive oil.
