There is anger among customers over industrial-milk price increases due to take effect Sept. 1.
The Canadian Dairy Commission announced it is raising the price of butter fat and raw milk by 4.1 per cent. It’s the first increase since 2016 when there were two increases totalling almost six per cent.
The Globe and Mail spoke to Sharon Macleod whose business is making shortbread cookies. She said she felt sick to her stomach when she learned about the butter price increase. She uses about 30,000 pounds a year.
The CDC said higher interest rates and prices for fuel and feed pushed up the cost-of-production formula by 5.1 per cent.
