More drought aid for N-W Ont.

Five million dollars is being added to the $2 million already committed to help farmers in Northwestern Ontario who are suffering drought.

The $2 million is from the province; the $5 million is from the federal-provincial AgriRecovery program.

The Ontario government is asking the federal government to include costs related to hay, other feeds and transportation costs for feed.

It has also asked for AgriRecovery funds for water measures, including trucking and equipment, temporary fencing and other extraordinary costs arising out of the drought.

The federal government has approved an increase in AgriStability interim payments up to 75 per cent.
