Canada ranks eighth in the world for meat quality and
safety, according to the Food Security Index prepared by DuPont and the
Economist Intelligence Unit.

It makes our politicians proud. They regularly boast about our food safety and quality. But they don't cite this global scorecard.
Canada ranks far behind the United States, which was fourth.
France and Israel top the list.
The index also measures affordability and availability.
Canada ranked ninth for affordability and 13th
for availability.
Canada scored 27 strengths and no challenges.
Among the strengths Canada scored 100 for the proportion of
the population under the global poverty line, the presence of food safety net
programs, access to financing for farmers, national nutrition standards, food
safety and the prevalence of undernourishment.
There were lower scores for other factors, for example, 93
for diet diversification, 89.8 for agriculture infrastructure, 88.9 for
political stability risk and 80 for protein quality.
