Russians burn pigs to curb disease

Some Russians are burning live pigs as a measure to stop the spread of African Swine Fever.

When videos of the burnings made the news, the public reacted in horror, demanding an immediate end to the practice.

Rosselhoznadzor specialists for the Voronezh and Volgograd region believe that burning pigs alive is the best preventive measure to stop the spread of African Swine Fever.

The international organisation Compassion in World Farming called Russian authorities to stop the torture of pigs. “Compassion is seeking urgent action from the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) in response to horrifying footage that surfaced in Russia where pigs are being burned alive,” said the message.
