There has been a tidal wave of cancellations of organic
certificates for Saskatchewan growers, according to information posted on the
Canadian Food Inspection Agency’s website.
Pro-Cert Organic Systems cancelled licences for 37 growers
in Saskatchewan, two in Alberta, four in Manitoba and one in British Columbia in the last three months.
Another 28 Saskatchewan growers voluntarily withdrew from
Pro-Cert, three in Manitoba, two in Alberta and two in British Columbia.
Six Ontario growers voluntarily withdrew their Pro-Cert
licences and one Ecocert Canada licence was
voluntarily withdrawn in Ontario.
The CFIA website does not indicate why licences were
cancelled or voluntarily withdrawn.
