B.C. woman picks up bird flu in China

A British Columbia family is under household quarantine because the mother contracted the H7N9 strain of avian influenza during a visit to China.

She had contact with poultry in a market while there.

She showed no symptoms during the flight home on Jan. 12, but later became sick, according to information revealed this week by Public Health Minister Rona Ambrose.

She is the first North American case of human infection with this strain of avian influenza.
