Riendeau to head Canadian Dairy Commission

Serge Riendeau of Quebec is the new chief executive officer for the Canadian Dairy Commission, replacing Jacques Laforge who has held the post for six years.

Agriculture Minister Lawrence MacAulay said he was picked for a three-year term ‘following an open, transparent and merit-based selection process.’

Riendeau has been president of the Agropur cooperative for nearly 15 years and a board director for 25 years; he has been a dairy farmer for 40 years.

MacAulay said in a news release that Riendeau ‘is a recognized member of his community and an active supporter of a charity for children facing bullying and violence.”

The news release claimed Agropur is Canada’s largest dairy processor, however, Saputo Inc. is bigger than Agropur.
