The city of Lund, Sweden, spread chicken manure in its main park to deter people who normally crowd the site to celebrate Walpurgis Night.
Walpurgis Night is a spring festival that normally attracts thousands to the main park to celebrate the ancient pagan festival on the last Thursday of April, but this year of the COVID-19 pandemic the city wanted people to stay home.
Gustav Lundblad, chairman of the Lund council’s environmental committee, said the chicken poop serves more than one purpose.
“We get the opportunity to fertilize the lawns, and at the same time it will stink and so it may not be so nice to sit and drink beer in the park,” Lundblad told the Sydsvenskan newspaper.
