TruHarvest Meats, the new owners of the Ryding-Regency beef-packing plant in Toronto, has had its licence suspended for failure to meet Canadian Food Inspection Agency standards.
The plant can’t operate until it satisfies the CFIA.
The CFIA suspended the licence of Ryding-Regency which led to its bankruptcy.
That also left Ontario beef farmers far short of needed slaughter capacity in the province. It also ended many specialty-market production at Ryding-Regency, such as Halal.
“The CFIA suspended the licence because the operator failed to implement effective corrective measures for non-compliances in accordance with the relevant provisions of Part 4 of the Safe Food for Canadians Regulations,” the CFIA said on its website today.
