U.S. beef exports set record, pork declines

United States' beef exports increased by 68 per cent in May from the same month last year, setting a record.

But pork exports slipped a bit.

Beef exports totaled 133,440 tonnes that were worth $904.3 million, 88 per cent more than a year ago.

Record were set for exports to  South Korea and China sales to Japan and Taiwan have rebounded. Mexico was also a big buyer.

For January through May, pork exports were slightly below last year's record pace at 1.34 million tonnes, but export value increased three per cent to $3.63 billion.

China/Hong Kong remain the biggest buyers of U.S. pork, especially for variety meat.

But China has been easing its purchases of muscle-meat pork.
