Purdue Farms paid $14.75 million to settle a lawsuit filed by poultry farmers in Alabama, reports Meatingplace Magazine.
It did not admit to any wrongdoing.
Last month Tyson paid $21 million to settle a similar case and other lawsuits remain outstanding against Pilgrim’s Pride, Koch Foods and Sanderson Farms.
The lawsuits against Perdue Farms alleged that it and other poultry processors pushed chicken growers into debt via specific barn building standards, and that farmer compensation was fixed to feed corporate profits.
