The Vaughan-based company said it will proceed through the normal planning processes which would require amendments to the official plans of the Waterloo Region and Wilmot Township and a zoning change from agriculture.
When the proposal surfaced, it led to protests to Wilmot Township Council. Mark Reusser, vice-president of both the Ontario Federation of Agriculture and the Waterloo Federation of Agriculture, called for continued protection of farmland and said an MZO would be contrary to the long tradition of careful planning in the Waterloo Region.
The official plans do call for development between New Hamburg and Baden, but along a southern highway that is the main link between Kitchener and Stratford.
Cachet’s proposal is beside a highway to the north, is kitty-corner from Steinman Mennonite Church and beside Pfennings Organic farm.
Wilmot Township council has cancelled an information meeting on the Cachet proposal that was scheduled for Feb. 14.
