Greenhouses catch a break on electricity

The Independent Electricity System Operator is proposing cost breaks for greenhouses as part of offers for businesses, institutions and municipal governments that would cost the utility $342 million.

For greenhouses, it recommends switching to LED lights, using solar panels to gather energy and installing battery storage.

For others it recommends retrofits to improve energy conservation.

Opposition party critics said these offers are less than Premier Doug Ford cancelled after taking power about four years ago.
