Six quarantines lifted

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency has lifted quarantines on six premises in Ontario and one in Quebec that had outbreaks of highly-pathogenic avian influenza.

They were all infected during the spring northward migration of birds. They are believed to be responsible for dropping the virus in their poop and then it gets tracked into the midst of flocks.

There have been a few new outbreaks associated with the fall bird migration. The Ontario Featherboard Command Centre, working for four poultry-industry marketing boards and their suppliers, has advised the industry to elevate biosecurity precautions.
