Three companies in Lambton-Kent are each receiving $200,000 from the province’s new $2-million fertilizer innovation program.
It was launched after fertilizer prices soared last year, partly because of new federal-government tariffs on Russian goods including nitrogen fertilizers.
The tariffs were in response to Russia’s invasion of the Ukraine.
The three companies are:
Alvinston’s BioLine Corporation which reduces conventional fertilizer use with Fulvic acid-based nutrient efficiency enhancement.
CanGrow Crop Solutions of Alvinston which uses microbials to reduce fertilizer.
Haggerty AgRobotics of Bothwell which is working on real-time automated soil fertilizer indexing.
“Our government will always do what it takes to support Ontario’s farmers, which is why we are laying the groundwork for Ontario-made fertilizer manufacturing,” said Ontario Agriculture Minister Lisa Thompson.
