Bunge buys Viterra

It’s now official: Bunge is buying Glencore’s global grain business for almost $11 billion Cdn.

The deal includes Viterra which is the result of merging the Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba wheat pools.

At the same time, Glencore of Switzerland unveiled its plan to bid for the coal business of Canadian mining company Teck Resources.

The Canada Pension Plan holds 40 per cent of Viterra and Glencore 49 per cent. Both approved the Bunge bid.
