Wellington County has won an award for its Experimental Acres program from the Economic Developers Council of Ontario.
The program supports environmentally friendly agriculture and recognizesinnovative, collaborative, distinctive achievements in economic development.
Experimental Acres offered micro-grants of up to $3,000 for small and medium-sized farms to run trials of "regenerative agriculture practices" in a low-risk environment. Soil testing and research support was also provided by the county.
Wellington County has about 2,600 farms.
