The Canadian Food Inspection Agency picked 3 a.m. Saturday morning of the May 2-4 weekend to warn the public of a serious risk involving lettuce that could be in a lot of salads at your favourite supermarket.And then it provided an updated and expanded list on Sunday/Monday.

"These clerk-served foods contain lettuce which may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes."
That would be the same bacteria that killed a couple score customers of Maple Leaf Foods Inc.
The CFIA also issued a Listeria alert for Gills Onions brand Fresh Diced Red Onions, also from the U.S.
The onions are 198-gram packages bearing UPC 6 43550 00045 0, Best Before date 05/17/12, and lot code 51RDA1A2119.
This product is known to be distributed in Ontario and may have been distributed nationally.
The CFIA says nobody has been reported sickened by these products.
