Big Sky bankrupt

Big Sky Farms of Humboldt, Sask., is bankrupt - again.

It’s Canada’s second-largest hog producer, supplying Maple Leaf Foods and Olymel.

It also declared bankruptcy in 2009.

Casey Smit, chief executive officer, said the company was losing $40 to $50 per head.

So far the staff and pigs are still at the farm. It’s not clear if the company will be able to arrange financing to keep going, sell to somebody else or will have to shut down.
