Ontario needs an auditor who checks value received for money spent.
If we had such an audit, I figure Geri Kamenz, chairman of the Ontario Farm Products Marketing Council, would be fingered.
Last year he took down $116,845.91.
And what did he do?
Nothing in terms of an inquiry into the allegations of widespread fraud and abuses in the egg industry.
Nothing about the lack of chicken for CAMI International Poultry Inc., leaving thousands of customers without a Canadian source of Hong Kong slaughter chicken or hand-slaughtered, air-chilled Halal-standard chicken.
Nothing to address the concerns of poultry consumers on Manitoulin Island or many other Northern Ontario communities who want to buy locally-produced chickens, eggs and turkeys, but can't get them because quota costs are prohibitive.
Nothing, in fact, that the staff and his vice-chair couldn't do a whole lot better.
