Maple Leaf Foods Inc. has been fined $110,000 for failing to
ensure a meat blade could not harm workers.
An employee at the plant in North York lost fingers while he
was trying the clear away some meat caught in the blade.
Justice of the Peace David J. Hunt issued the fine after the
Ministry of Labour testified that the machinery ought to have been set up so
the blade would come to a complete stop before a protection-cage could be
lifted.
