Loblaws flogs U.S. eggs

Loblaws' has dropped out of the "buy local" campaign.

This week my wife bought eggs on special at a Loblaws-owned Zehrs Markets store.

When she got home, she checked the packaging more carefully and found they are labeled "product of U.S.A."

They are from Burnbrae Farms, which is the largest egg-grading and egg-farming conglomerate in Canada.

So why is a company that has benefitted so enormously from supply management importing eggs for a Loblaws special.

Maybe the Ontario Farm Products Marketing Commission and the Farm Products Council of Canada ought to check into this. After all, they have a mandate to ensure marketing-board compliance, including the responsibility for the marketing boards to meet Canadian demand.
