Franco Ontariens face tribunal scrutiny

The Union des Cultivateurs Franco-onteriens will be on the hot seat Aug. 27 in Ottawa, trying to convince the appeals tribunal to grant funding status.

The tribunal rejected applications for re-accreditation for the Ontario Federation of Agriculture, the Christian Farmers Federation of Ontario and the Ontario Branch of the National Farmers Union.

Two subsequently re-gained funding via political intervention and the NFU won back accreditation through court action.

The French-speaking farm organization has been funded indirectly via the three general farm organizations.

The Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs Appeal Tribunal posted notice of the public hearing on its website over the weekend.

It’s at 10 a.m. Aug. 17 in the Lady Carleton Room, Residence Inn by Marriott, 161 Laurier Avenue West, Ottawa, Ontario         .
