The reason is wet
weather in the United States that has reduced the harvest there.
A farmer in
Missouri is importing pumpkins from Quebec because 40 to 60 per cent of his
crop was wiped out.
It also helps
that the Canadian dollar is low, making Canadian pumpkins relatively cheap for
American buyers.
Darrell Theis, co-owner of
Theis Farms in Missouri, is mentioned in an article by Canadian Press which
says he has bought 40,000 pounds of Canadian pumpkins this fall.
