Daryl Phoenix has filed an appeal against the Egg Farmers of
Ontario marketing board’s policy of leasing quota increases the province
receives from the national agency.
The board used to allocate the increases to quota holders on
a pro rata basis – i.e. everyone getting the same percentage increase.
Several years ago it decided to keep the quota and charge
producers an annual rental fee.
The proceeds have been used to underwrite the board’s
administrative costs.
The Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs
Appeal Tribunal will hold a hearing on the appeal Dec. 21 at Guelph.
