Manitoba has another PED case

Another Manitoba farm has experienced an outbreak of porcine epidemic diarrhea, prompting hog industry leaders to repeat criticism of the federal government require that trucks delivering hogs to the U.S. be washed there.

The concern is that instead of cleaning the virus out, the truck washes actually contaminate the trucks because the wash bays use recycled water.

The Manitoba farmers want returning trucks to be washed at Canadian wash bays that do not use recycled water and have, in the past, proven more effective in keeping the province free of PED.

But the Canadian Food Inspection Agency shows no indication it’s willing to relent.

Ontario has had the most PED outbreaks, but none since June 30.
