Henry
George Beben, former president and chief executive officer of the Heritage
Group, which included Schneider Corp., has died. He was 76.
He
spent most of his life in the food industry, starting as a stock boy at Fredrick's Market on Davenport Road in
Toronto.
His first sales position was with the H. J.
Heinz Company.
At Schneiders, he re-organized the
business, creating the Heritage Group which owned a number of food-industry
companies.
Sales grew exponentially under his
leadership.
He also was President and Chief Executive
Officer at Gainers Inc. where he helped rebuild the struggling company by
developing substantial export sales in international markets.
Later in his career, Henry realized his
lifelong aspiration to own and manage several companies including his prized
business venture - Principal Marques Incorporated. He was fiercely proud of
each of them.
