A new
heat sensor to detect barn fires will be tested on Ontario farms this summer.
Farm
& Food Care Ontario is teaming up with Ontario’s mutual companies and a
Hamilton-based company, Harvest Robotics, for the project.
The aim
is to detect hot spots and prevent fires before they start.
The
device runs frequent scans of areas within the barn and maps temperatures,
detects unusual heat and notifies the farmer.
Farm
& Food Care is investing $35,000 and the federal and provincial agriculture
departments another $108,000.
