European
soil compaction expert Matthias Stettler will be in Arthur to talk to
farmers on behalf of the Ontario Soil and Crop Improvement
Association.
He will be
at the Shawridge Farms Grain Elevator on Thursday, September 7th
between 9am and 4pm., not only speaking, but also demonstrating soil
compaction by looking at soil profiles from dug pits.
Stettler is
from Bern, Switzerland.
In the pits,
farmers will be able to see the differences between various axle
weights and configurations.
The OSCIA
says this is an excellent opportunity to learn how compaction impacts
soil structure, rainfall absorption, erosion and overall soil health.
