Beef cow inventories increased by seven tenths of one per
cent in January, 2015, by 2.9 per cent the next year and by 2.5 per cent last
year.
But slaughter figures from the federal agriculture department
show that cow slaughter increased by 11 per cent in October over the same month
last year and preliminary estimates indicate there will also be an increase for
November.
Heifer slaughter increased by 12 per cent in October and
steer slaughter by three per cent.
Feedlots are keeping their marketings current and that’s
reflected in a decrease in average carcass weights.
