United States
President Donald Trump has shortened the 27-year prison sentence for Sholom
Rabushkin, 57, who was convicted of bank fraud.
He ran Agriprocessors
Inc., the largest kosher meat business in the United States. He has served more
than eight years of his sentence.
It is not a
presidential pardon; his conviction remains on his record and he will be under
supervised release. He will also have to complete payment of restitution
ordered by the court.
He was a rabbi who
took over the Iowa-based business his father founded and grew it into the
largest kosher meat provider.
He faced
85 fraud charges and was also cited for issues involving animal treatment, food
safety, environmental safety, child labor, and hiring of undocumented workers.
The
business closed in 2008.
