Brazil suspends beef exports to China

Brazil has had one case of atypical Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy (BSE, or mad cow’ disease) and so has suspended beef exports to China.

That’s in accordance with a sanitary protocol between them.

Exports to other countries are so far not affected since most follow the advice of the world animal health organization (OIE) which continues to rank Brazil’s beef export risks as “negligible”.

The disease was detected in a 17-year-old cow on Matto Grasso state.

Brazilian officials said thy expect shipments to resume as soon as the Chinese authorities conclude evaluating the information sent by Brazil.
