Gordon Food Services is recalling a long list of its frozen chicken products because of possible contamination with Listeria monocytogenes food-poisoning bacteria.
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency notice makes mention of imported chicken. Earlier this month officials in the United States identified Tip Top Poultry of Georgia as the source of widespread distribution of frozen chicken contaminated with Listeria.
The investigations revealed that these Listeria have the same genetic profile.
What is confusing is that the Canadian Food Inspection Agency reports that the recall for Gordon Food Services products “was triggered by the CFIA's surveillance activities following an investigation into a foodborne illness outbreak.”
But later in the same internet posting, it says “imported diced chicken has been associated with an outbreak investigation, however, at this time, there have been no confirmed illnesses associated with the products identified in this Food Recall Warning.”
