Ontario’s two main pork slaughter plants are both back in business this week.
The Sofina plants in Burlington kept going steadily, including weekend slaughter to try to catch up on a backlog of market-ready hogs.
Company spokesperson Daniele Dufour said “production at our pork facility is running as usual. We have had no employee testing positive for COVID-19 to date.”
Conestoga Meats near Kitchener resumed slaughter on Monday and pork processing on Tuesday after shutting down for a week.
Conestoga had seven workers test positive for COVID-19 and during the shutdown sanitized the plant and equipment and installed shields between work stations.
