Becel production will move from Etobicoke to Brantford where it has bought a 17.4-acre industrial property.
The company also makes Imperial spreads and recently bought the rights to Violife from Arivia of Greece.
The Canadian operations are part of Upfield based in Amsterdam in the Netherlands which bought margarine operations from Unilever to become the world’s largest producer of plant-based spreads.
The building Upfield bought in Brantford is 164,000 square feet and “brings a significant investment involving the purchase of land, infrastructure improvements and equipment,” the company said.
The company employs 86 workers in Etobicoke and will be adding more as it completes the move to Brantford by the end of next year.
