Ariana Quesada, the 16-year-old daughter of a worker at the Cargill plant at High River, Alta., has prompted an RCMP investigation into his death from COVID-19.
She filed a formal complaint, accusing the company of negligence.
Cargill said it has yet to see anything from police, but said it followed public health advice in the spring when the largest working-place outbreak in Canada developed at the plant. It is also Canada’s largest beef-packing plant.
Benito Quesada was a 51-year-old immigrant from Mexico supporting a wife and four children when he was hospitalized with COVID-19 in mid-April.
He had been in a coma and on a ventilator when he died on May 7. His family could not visit him until when he was near death.
Cargill owns Better Beef Ltd. In Guelph which was shut down in mid-December because of an outbreak of COVID-19 among workers there. It re-opened this week.
