Worker safety program available online

The Ontario Federation of Agriculture has worked with the University of Guelph to produce an on-line program for farm worker safety training.

Those who successfully complete the course which takes eight to 10 hours completed at their own pace will earn a Worker Safety and Awareness Certicate.

The course is offered via the Ridgetown Campus Business Development Centre.

This course includes an introduction to farm equipment operation and safety and to both crop and livestock farming.

“We have a wide array of educational programs available for career paths in agriculture and food, and this training is a great step towards attracting new students to the agri-food industry,” said Rene Van Acker, dean of the Ontario Agricultural College at the University of Guelph.

The Ontario Federation of Agriculture said that while this program is not a replacement for on-farm training, it will complement the training employers provide.
