Hit by a strike at its Vallée-Jonction plant in Quebec, Olymel has sold 20,000 of the 25,000 hogs from Ontario that it was contracted to slaughter.
The plant at Vallée-Jonction has capacity to slaughter 37,000 hogs per week, but has been closed down by a strike that began April. 28.
The information about the diversion to U.S. packers was divulged in an interview with Meatingplace Magazine.
