Avian influenza is suspected in the death of three swans in
the Avon River in Stratord.
Tests are underway at the lab at the University of Guelph.
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency also reported an
outbreak in a small, no-poultry location in Brant County.
Quin Malott, Stratford’s parks, forestry, and cemetery
manager, said the first swan was
found dead in the Avon River on Saturday, but his team
didn't connect the dots until two
other swans got sick on the following days. .
Malott said the pond that the swans use is visited by a lot
of wild ducks.
The poultry industry command centre has called for elevated
biosecurity in the face of a recent outbreak
at a poultry farm.
