African Swine Fever detected in Sweden

Analysis of a dead boar in Sweden has revealed African Swine Fever, the first time the disease has been detected in that country.

It’s a long way from the nearest country with a case of African Swine Fever leading to speculation that it might have been spread by humans.

The testing was done after the discovery of seven dead boars in Fagersta, about 175 kilometres from Stockholm.

"At present, we do not know how the infection got in, but it is a long jump from the nearest infected area in Europe, and we therefore assume that it has happened through humans and not wild boar," said the Veterinary Institute.
