The National Farm Products Council has approved levy increases for eggs.
At the national agency level, there is a12-cent levy rate increase effective Nov. 5.
Three-quarters of the increase is for the administration fund.
In addition, on September 20 the national agency board approved a four-cents-per-dozen increase in the cost of production formula for the provincial administration levy. It also went into effect Nov. 5.
The egg industry increases contrast with the recent decision of the Canadian Dairy Commission to delay taking a cost-justified increase of 1.77 per cent effective Feb. 1.
Egg prices track changes in levies and the cost-of-production formula.
