Canadians overwhelmingly support supply management for farmers, according to an online survey of about 2,000 people conducted by Abacus Data in early November.
The survey found that 94 per cent consider it a ‘good thing’ when they hear that local dairy, poultry and egg products are produced with high standards of food safety and animal care under supply management.
Ninety two per cent express confidence in the food safety and animal welfare of dairy, chicken, turkey, and eggs produced at home because of supply management.
Ninety-seven per cent feel it is important that Canada has strong domestic food supply chains that allow us to produce enough food to feed Canadians year-round.
Ninety-four per cent prefer their dairy, eggs, chicken, and turkey products to be produced locally and in Canada under supply management.
The results are posted on the Chicken Farmers of Ontario website and do not indicate whether the poll included any questions about prices.
