Kirk Walstedt of Maidstone has been appointed vice-chairman of the Normal
Farm Practices Protection Board, but for only three months to the end of
September.
Appointments to the board are usually for much longer terms.
For example, Roger Pelissero, Marinus Byl and Maxwell Carter, who were
appointed in 2007, got nine-year terms to June, 2016.
Walstedt, who is a lawyer, will be paid $627 per day.
His nine-year term at the Ontario Agriculture, Food and
Rural Affairs Tribunal, where he ended his term serving as chairman, expired in May, just after
he issued controversial rulings denying re-accreditation to all three general
farm organizations. There he was paid $664 per day.
The three organizations’ appeals are scheduled to be heard
later this month.
