Dale Johnston is the new chairman of Farm Credit Canada’s
board of directors.
He was appointed by fellow Tory and Agriculture Minister
Gerry Ritz.
Johnston, who farms in Panoka County, Alberta, was a Member
of Parliament from 1993, when he was a Reform Party member, to 2006 when he
chose to not contest the election that year. He was Chief Opposition Whip from
2004 to 2006.
He also served as a municipal councilor, reeve and as
chairman of the Panoka County Board of Education, on the board of Panoka
General Hospital and a number of local organizations.
What I hope is that he is a true free-enterprise conservative who will finally sell Farm Credit Canada so it gets off the government books before it implodes yet again. The last time it cost taxpayers more than $2.5 billion and in the face of current lending for quota and land, it could be a lot more when those bubbles burst.
