Lobby group disses HSUS

The Humane Society of United States spends less than one per cent of its $127-million annual budget on pet shelters, says an opposing lobby organization, HumaneWatch.org.

HumaneWatch accuses the HSUS of using deceptive fundraising,  featuring dogs and cats, but spending most of its money - $50 million – on fundraising.

The HSUS has targeted gestation stalls for sows this year,  lobbying pork-buying companies such as fast-food restaurant chains and supermarkets to pressure their suppliers to buy only pork that is raised on hog farms that don’t use gestation crates.

HumaneWatch is run by the Center for Consumer Freedom which is funded by fast food,  meat, alcohol and tobacco companies.
