The Ontario Pork Industry Council is urging its members to
vote on an online poll the CBC has set up asking whether its audience members
will continue to support the hog industry.
The question is posed in the context of the airing of an
underground video an animal rights group, Mercy for Animals Canada, took at
Puratone Corp in Manitoba.
The activists portray animal cruelty. Hog-farmer
organizations counter that they don’t condone animal cruelty, but also that
some of the footage depicts normal practice for euthanizing newborn piglets.
