A fifth farm in the Fraser Valley of British Columbia has
the H5N2 strain of avian influenza.
That means about 140,000 birds will have been sacrificed by
the end of this week in efforts to contain the disease.
The fifth farm is a flock of turkeys and is the second
turkey farm hit by the disease.
A broiler-breeder chicken farm near Chilliwack is another
hit by H5N2.
This is the same strain that was involved in an outbreak in
2009, but this time it’s in the more deadly “high pathogenic” category.
