Canadians are wasting more food than ever – 15 per cent more
than four years ago when the Value Chain Management International conducted its
first study.
The food that’s wasted is worth about $31 billion a year.
Using a formula developed for the United Nations to arrive
at a total cost increases Canada’s total to $107 billion a year.
Consumers are wasting about 10 per cent of what they buy.
Farmers, processors, distributors and retailers account for
the rest of the losses.
Cutting out losses would increase their profits by five to
11 per cent, according to the current study.
I guess you could say this study proves that food either goes to waste or waists.
